The Last Free Day (LFD) is the final day on which cargo can be stored at a terminal or port without incurring storage fees. After the LFD, demurrage charges are applied for each additional day the cargo remains at the facility. Knowing the LFD is crucial for shippers and consignees to avoid extra costs and ensure timely pickup and delivery of goods.

In container shipping and logistics, yards allow a certain number of free days for the clearing process. The container must be cleared and removed from the port within those days; otherwise, demurrage will be added per diem. Demurrage can significantly increase shipping costs.
